Utilisation of high volumes of limestone quarry wastes in concrete industry (self-compacting concrete case). Effects of draining and desilting a small weir on downstream fish and macroinvertebrates. Predicting invertebrate diversity from disturbance regimes in forest streams. The independent and interactive effects of fine sediment and flow on benthic invertebrate communities characteristic of small upland streams. Effects of clogging on stream macroinvertebrates. Bo T., Fenoglio S., Malacarne G., Pessino M. Verlag des Naturhistorischen Museums Wien, 239 pp. Die Eintagsfliegen Zentraleuropas (Insecta: Ephemeroptera): Bestimmung und Ö kologie. However, we believe that the recovery of aquatic assemblages, upon closure of the quarry, would be fast and successful because of nearby streams that may serve as a recolonizing source. The magnitude of changes in the macroinvertebrate assemblage structure was due to the extremely long duration of disturbance. The most important cause of such changes in the macroinvertebrate assemblage structure was the change in pH and turbidity. All biocenotic descriptors decreased significantly downstream of the quarry including total taxa (by 60%), total number of individuals (by 85%), diversity index (by 56%). Turbidity, pH and temperature increased significantly downstream of the quarry. Standard physico chemical parameters were measured and triplicate benthos samples were taken using a 30 × 30 cm Surber sampler. Samples were taken at four sites on four dates during the spring of 2006. The quarry is located 3 km downstream from the spring. The study was performed at Bistra Stream on Medvednica Mountain in NW Croatia. The goal of this study was to assess some ecological effects of quarry mining on mountain stream habitats. The studies of quarrying effects to date have been conducted mostly in the fields of geology, (hydro)geochemistry and landscape management while ecological studies on effects of quarrying are surprisingly few. Microtopia deals with a contemporary urgent ideas that are addressed, and solved, in a very surprising way.Quarrying is a widespread method for acquiring construction material. On the sidewalk, on rooftops, in industrial landscapes and in nature we will see and feel how these abodes meet the dreams set up by their creators. We hear about the personal reasons behind the dwellings, and to see how they actually work. Modern nomads, homeless people, people in stress, people in need of privacy or seclusion. Microtopia explores how architects, artists and ordinary problem-solvers are pushing the limits to find answers to their dreams of portability, flexibility – and of creating independence from “the grid”. In an age of increasing population and technological gains, today’s mobile society has resulted in a demand, or perhaps a dream, for portable dwellings and dwellings in new settings and situations. How would you feel about carrying your home in your pocket or having clothes to live in? For most of us, “house” means stability, structure, and permanence.
